Breast Lift FAQs
What can a breast lift do for me?
A breast lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that corrects saggy breasts by “lifting” them so they don’t droop. The result is firmer breasts and a more youthful body contour.
A breast lift can only correct ptosis – it cannot add volume. If you would like to improve the size of your breasts as well, you can undergo augmentation mastopexy. This procedure adds volume and lifts the breasts in a single surgical procedure.
How does a breast lift work?
This surgical procedure removes excess tissue and repositions the areola and nipple so that the breasts are reshaped to look perkier and feel firmer.
What does surgery involve?
Surgery involves the administration of anesthesia. The actual technique applied during your surgery depends on how much lift is required to achieve your desired outcome.
There are a number of breast lift surgery techniques including the Crescent Lift, Benelli Lift, Benelli-Lollipop and Full Mastopexy. The best technique that will help you achieve your aesthetic goals is determined during the consultative process with your plastic surgeon, Dr. Martin Jugenburg. You may also be a candidate for the Vertical Breast Lift method, a technique perfected by Dr.Jugenburg that has been designed to minimize scarring, making it barely visible to the naked eye in the long term.
How long does a mastopexy take?
Depending on the technique used, your surgery could take anywhere from 1.5 to 4 hours.
Who is a candidate for a breast lift?
Women who are unhappy with the shape and firmness of their breasts, are physically and emotionally healthy, understand the risks involved and are choosing to undergo the procedure for themselves are candidates for breast lift surgery.
If you are expecting to have children, you should wait until after doing so before undergoing a breast lift since the results of surgery can be adversely affected by pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Why would I want to undergo a breast lift?
There are many reasons why a woman would choose to undergo a breast lift, but the majority are related to the impact of their appearance on self esteem and self confidence. Many women find droopy breasts to be unattractive and have a negative self image as a result. Their self esteem suffers and confidence levels are low. A breast lift can enhance a woman’s contours so that they feel more attractive and consequently, have better self esteem and self confidence.
How is the recovery process?
The recovery process is gradual but is totally worth it, according to the overwhelming majority of patients! Dr. Jugenburg will give you advice on the necessary precautions you need to take prior to surgery and the postoperative limitations you should follow. Follow this advice closely to facilitate your recovery.
What about scarring?
Any surgery involving incisions results in scarring, and mastopexy is of no exception. Fortunately, Dr. Jugenburg applies advanced techniques to minimize long-term scarring and make their presence barely noticeable.
When can I get back to work?
This depends on the individual, however usually you’ll be able to get back to sedentary work in 3 to 5 days. You’ll need to avoid any heavy lifting or rigorous physical activity for a few months as you heal.
How long do the results last?
Results last long, however the effects of aging, pregnancy, trauma or other factors may have a negative impact.
What are the side effects and risks of mastopexy that I should be aware of?
All surgical procedures have risks and side effects. Those associated with this surgery include infection, excessive bleeding, swelling and a loss or increase in the sensitivity level of the areola or breasts. Most risks are considered temporary. You will most likely feel some level of discomfort after surgery. This can be addressed with prescribed medication.
Dr. Jugenburg applies advanced surgical techniques that have been designed to reduce the occurrence of any risks and side effects.
