Size Doesn’t Really Matter

August 3rd, 2010 by alissa

Finally, a recent survey about Canadians and breast augmentation.

The Canadian Women’s Attitudes toward Breast Implant Surgery, conducted for breast implant manufacturer Allergan, explores the perceptions of breast implants in 1000 women across the country. Participants are a sample of the general public and include women who are hoping to undergo breast augmentation.

The most important thing that the study found was that size doesn’t matter. What matters most is how the breast implants improve the body contour, achieving the most natural looking results. That’s right – Pamela Anderson, Heidi Montag, Tori Spelling and Maxi Mounds have it all wrong. Their breasts are too big and/or the outline of the implants are clearly visible.

Close to 73% of the surveyed women considering undergoing breast augmentation are doing so to make their body contour look more “normal”. Now, we know that the term “normal” varies greatly depending on the person. However, it’s probably safe to say that the women do not want to have excessively large breasts after surgery. Rather, they’d probably want something that compliments their natural body shape and type.

And that’s what breast augmentation is generally designed to achieve: the most natural looking results possible.

5 Tips to Help you Get Better Breast Skin

June 8th, 2010 by alissa

Beautiful breasts aren’t just about size and shape – they’re also about a smooth, clear complexion. A beautiful complexion can also help maintain the perkiness of your chest, since part of what’s holding the ladies up isn’t only ligaments. It’s also taut skin that’s rich in collagen.

The skin on your breasts, like the rest of your body, reflects your lifestyle, diet and habits. For example, if you don’t eat well, then most likely your skin won’t be as clear and glowing as someone who does. What can help you get and maintain a glowing complexion?

1. Consume more foods and beverages with antioxidants. Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals, which are responsible for weakening and damaging molecules that can lead to wrinkles, blotchiness and other unsightly aesthetic problems. Green tea, dark chocolate (in moderation) and wild blueberries top the list, but there are so many other types of foods and drinks rich in antioxidants that your diet won’t be limited.

2. Relax. Stress is a primary factor in causing a number of skin problems. Acne, for example, has been found by researchers to be more severe in periods of stress due to heightened levels of cortisol (the stress hormone). Cortisol has been blamed for decreasing the skin’s ability to protect against the bacteria that causes acne and can also increase oil production.

3. Slather on the sunblock. One of the worst factors that contributes to an unhealthy complexion is prolonged sun exposure. UV rays are extremely damaging to the skin, causing hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and acne. Need proof? Just look at areas of your body that aren’t usually covered up, like the tops of your hands, your decollete and nose. You’ll notice that there’s a huge difference in skin quality when compared to other less exposed areas.

4. Sleep enough, uninterrupted in a dark and quiet room. Your body repairs itself at night, when you’re sleeping. That’s why a good night’s rest every night is vital in achieving a beautiful complexion. Experts say that the average should be about 8 hours, but it really depends on each person.

5. Get more anti inflammatory. Hyperpigmentation and redness is a form of inflammation that results when the skin is irritated or infected. Exercise and a multitude of fruits, vegetables, nuts and herbs can all help. You can also drink green tea.

Breast Ironing

April 28th, 2010 by alissa

Breast ironing is a traditional cultural practice that is most common in Cameroon, but exists in several other African countries primarily in Western and Central regions. As soon as a girl begins to show breast development, techniques are performed to stop or even reverse the process. Techniques include “ironing” the breasts with a hot pestle or stone on a regular basis, usually by the mother. Other female members of the family may also participate.

Breast ironing is performed for a number of reasons, none of which are to make the girl more attractive. It is quite the opposite. Flattening the breasts is done for a girl’s “safety” and “welfare”, as it is believed to discourage unwanted sexual attention and discourage premarital sex so that attention is focused on school. By maintaining the appearance of a flat chest, like that of a child, it is believed that a girl won’t perceive or be perceived sexually.

Statistics indicate that about 24% of girls in the country have had their breasts ironed. The tradition is considered a form of mutilation that causes extreme physical and psychological damage. It has also been found to be ineffective at what it attempts to do. National and international organizations have tried to persuade the population to end the practice, however it continues to remain a common one.
