Boob Job and Lift

May 3rd, 2010 by alissa

We recently asked women to tell us what their reasons were for getting a boob job. Here’s one woman’s reason. She had a breast augmentation and breast lift performed at the same time:

In the latter months of my pregnancy and in the months after giving birth, my breasts were the largest they had ever been. After realizing my B-cup bras simply could not handle my growing chest anymore, I had to go bra shopping, proudly picking up sexy bras in the highly coveted C-cup size. I replaced all of my ill-fitting B-cup bras, shoving them into the back of my underwear drawer.

Good thing I didn’t throw them out.

5 months after giving birth, my breasts no longer produced milk. Along with drying up, they shrunk, smaller than they’ve ever been. Those C-cups I could fill with ease just months before became cavernous, and even my old neglected B-cups were a little too spacious. But that wasn’t the worst part.

It was the sagginess.

My breasts no longer looked “happy”. They were tired and deflated, depressed about no longer being able to function as a source of sustenance. It really had a negative effect on my self esteem, which is why I decided to get a boob job and lift. I’m really happy I decided to go through with it, and it’s not just because I got a discount for combining the procedures!

Saggy Breasts Get Support

Heard about the Internal Bra System?

South African cosmetic surgeons have designed a bra that is worn not over the breasts, but in the breasts. That’s right, this new type of breast lift surgery implants a bra-like device called Breform, made from a material that has been used for over 40 years in reconstructive surgery.

The Internal Bra System is believed to achieve longer lasting results because it provides more support, thanks to the implant. Traditional breast lifts involve removing excess skin and, if necessary, repositioning the areola and nipple to create the appearance of perkier breasts. However, it is only the natural skin that provides continuing support after surgery. Aging, gravity and other factors can subsequently stretch the skin, causing the breasts to sag again and reversing desirable effects.  It can also adversely affect the appearance of scars.

Internal Bra System procedure places the bra-like device, made from polyester, into the breasts, positioning it just below the skin. Stitches attach the device to the fascia. Incisions extend from the areola, downward to where the breast meets the rest of the body. In the time following surgery, the body naturally creates fibrous tissue around the Internal Bra, thereby holding it in place.

The Internal Bra System is available in South Africa, the UK and Europe. It is not available in Canada at the moment nor has it been approved by the FDA. Concerns about the device include potential cancer risks and long term (10+ years) implications. It is not recommended for women who wish to have children following treatment.

It’ll probably still be a while before this comes to Canada, since it’s only been around for a few years. But if it does come here, it could change the way surgeons perform breast lift procedures!
