Synopsis

Fat transfer breast augmentation provides a completely natural option for enhancing your breasts.

Using your own fat, this procedure achieves a fuller, rounder look without implants or foreign materials. Fat is gently removed from areas like the legs, abdomen, or flanks and then transferred to the breasts for a smooth, natural finish.

Why a Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation?

While this procedure may not be the best choice for everyone, it offers unique benefits for those who are good candidates.

Fat transfer breast augmentation uses only your own fat, creating a natural alternative to implants with soft, long-lasting results and minimal scarring.

This minimally invasive procedure not only enhances your breasts but also slims the donor areas through liposuction, correcting slight asymmetry and adding subtle volume. It also leaves very small scars.

It’s a great option for a cup size increase for a subtle enhancement and can also support breast reconstruction after procedures like a lumpectomy.

This procedure offers a natural looking enhancement that's noticeable, but without a huge increase in breast size.  It improves shape, firmness, and fullness, resulting in a soft, natural appearance.

There are only 2 steps to a Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

The SASI surgery involves a two-step process.

Step 1
Liposuction

First, a liposuction is done on certain areas of the body where a certain amount of fat can be extracted. This is usually from the thighs, abdomen, or flanks. Then our surgeon sculpts the regions in order to achieve your desired contours. Using a gentle technique, liposuction preserves the integrity of the fat cells, which are then processed and prepared for injection into the breasts.

Step 2
Fat Injection

During the second stage, the fat is cautiously injected into the breasts to stimulate the growth of fat cells within the breast tissue. For the first few weeks post-procedure, the breasts may be swollen, similar to the effects of breast implants. Gradually, they will soften and within 3 months, you will be able to see the final results .

Step 3

Recovery

Am I a Candidate for a Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation?

A Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation is a highly successful procedure that uses minimal invasion that enhances the volume and shape of the breast. Although it's important for woman to have realistic expectations when considering this option. Woman looking for a more natural appearance and a slight breast increase are best suited for this operation. This is typically around half a cup size increase.

Those who want a larger increase and have a lack of symmetry, skin that is sagging, and droopy breasts should consider other procedures such as a Breast Lift, Breast Augmentation with implants, or a Breast reduction.

Risks of Complications

While complications after a Fat Transfer are rare, the following may occur:

Infection

Infections are very uncommon but can happen, which can result in needing antibiotics and/or drainage for the treatment. In very rare cases, surgery may be needed for a severe infection.

Bleeding

Although bleeding is rare, blood clots can form underneath the skin which may need to be drained. If severe, hospitalization and a blood transfusion may be necessary.

Skin irregularities

If skin irregularities occur they may be resolved by a simple massage or over time. If these lumps, hardness, or dimpling remain, other treatment methods may be required.

Fat Absorption

Wound care may be needed from the help of nurses. You may need to visit a nearby  clinic for care.

Fat Transfer

In order to transfer fat, fat need to be available within other body parts to proportionately distribute it to make sure enough oxygen and blood is is supplied to the new tissue.

Skin Numbness

You may feel numb in the affected areas, for as long as a few months. A rare occurrence is permanent high sensitivity or numbness.

Dizziness

In the first week following an abdominoplasty, you may experience dizziness especially when standing up from sitting or lying down. In this case, take care while driving or walking until it goes away.

FAQ
What happens during the surgery?
Following the initial incision, any extra skin and fat are carefully removed. If the patient qualifies for muscle repair, the abdominal muscles are tightened to enhance support. The upper abdominal skin is then released and stretched downward to cover the exposed area, completing the closure. A new spot is created for the belly button, which is brought up to the surface. This results in a firmer, flatter appearance to the abdominal skin. The incision is closed with sutures, and bandages are placed over the area.
How do I know if I am too skinny for a Fat Transfer?
This surgery can take around 2-3 hours but it varies per patient and how many areas of fat are being extracted.
How long is recovery after a fat transfer procedure?
The average recovery is around 2-4 days, in comparison to a much longer recovery period with a breast implant procedure.
Are stem cells used?
The term "stem cells" is often used as a marketing gimmick to mislead people, especially women, with false promises. In a regular fat transfer, some stem cells that are naturally in the tissue are transferred, but this is not considered a true stem cell procedure.
How soon will I see the results after a fat transfer procedure?
You will be able to notice the results right away. Although during the next few weeks and months, the feel and look of your breasts will gradually improve as the new fat becomes apart of your breasts.
Are there any side effects from a fat transfer?
The risks that are possible can happen due to any surgery. Patients will have swelling/bruises and feel slight discomfort for the following 3 days.
How long will the fat transfer results last?
If your weight doesn’t dramatically shift, you should have permanent results. If pregnant, due to breastfeeding, your breasts may alter in shape and size but will go back to normal post pregnancy.
What aftercare is required after fat transfer breast augmentation?
After this procedure, you’ll need to wear a a small bandage on the injection site for ten days and a compression garment on the donor areas for at least three weeks. Avoid intense physical activity and wear a supportive sports bra during recovery.
Is transferring fat safe?
At the Toronto Cosmetic Surgery Institute, patient comfort and safety are top priorities. The SixSurgery team will thoroughly explain any potential complications during your consultation.
